Food & Drink

The area around Wintergreen has exploded in the last 10 years with an amazing variety of top-tier wineries, breweries, distilleries, and cideries. So much so that there is a website and phone app that helps you plan your visit—Nelson151. Here, you’ll be able to see what is available at each location to most effectively use your time. There are even links to transportation firms that can pick you up at the condos and take you to any or all of your favorite destinations..so you can relax and enjoy all that Nelson 151 has to offer!

All of the breweries in the Wintergreen area, plus Bold Rock Cidery,  feature full-service menus. Devils Backbone even offers breakfast. But there are other restaurants in the Wintergreen area that can please anyone’s palette, and many feature farm-to-table menus that you’ll long remember.

On the mountain, within the Wintergreen Resort are two venues no further than 5 minutes from the condos:  The Copper Mine and The Edge.  The Copper Mine serves pasta, pizza, tapas, and  other Mediterranean cuisine, and its breakfast buffet on Sundays is well worth the visit.  The Edge is more of a sports bar, with sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, etc., and it does offer live entertainment on some nights.   There is a fourth restaurant at Wintergreen, the Stoney Creek Grill, down in the Valley at the Stony Creek Golf Course.

Away from the Resort, there are a number of other food choices. Basic Necessities is a long-time staple in the Wintergreen area, adding French flair to southern cuisine. They also do nice picnic baskets and sell wine and cheese. If you like barbeque, you’ll love the Blue Ridge Pig and Paulie’s Pig-out,! Wintergreen has a good Mexican Restaurant in Margarita‘s at the base of the mountain, and for Italian, go across the street from Margarita’s to Giuseppe’s which features really good pizza and pasta dishes.

Sports & Recreation

The Wintergreen Resort and surrounding areas offer a wealth of activities to satisfy even the most adventuresome person. Each season offers something different to enjoy!

Snow Sports

Once the temperatures drop, Wintergreen
really puts Snow Power to work! With some of
the most advanced snowmaking equipment
in the world, the Resort can blanket the mountain with groomed powder seemingly overnight. From late December typically into March, Wintergreen has 14 slopes open to cater to beginners through advanced skiers and riders. To complement the slopes, Wintergreen offers full rental equipment, plus lessons (private and group) to
help everyone improve their form.

Golf

The Stoney Creek Golf Course features three separate nine-hole layouts, which are rotated to offer 18 holes each day. A Rees Jones-designed layout,  Stoney Creek has numerous challenging elevation changes but is generally long with fairly wide fairways. And at the lower elevation of the Valley, Stoney Creek is open year-round. You can ski and golf in the same day!

Tennis

If you like tennis, you’ll love Wintergreen! Wintergreen’s facilities, both indoor and outdoor, are superb, and attract beginners and veterans alike. Play on one of 19 clay outdoor courts or 3 indoor deco-turf courts. And to advance your game, take advantage of one of Wintergreen’s famous academies or Nike tennis camps. Tennis Magazine has ranked Wintergreen among the nation’s top 50 tennis programs for the past 18 years, and in 2010 awarded the distinction of being the #1 resort for families in the United States.

Pools & Spa

The Wintergreen Property Owners Association operates two outdoor pools, which are free to our guests: one at Chestnut Springs is close to our condo, while the other is down in the Valley at Rodes Farm. The spa at Wintergreen is the place to go for a little “me-time”! It offers a full selection of spa treatments, massages, mani/pedis, and other services.

Outdoor Adventures

 Hiking

The Wintergreen area is a hiker’s dream! The Resort itself boasts over 30 miles of marked and maintained trails, with everything from a 10-minute leg stretcher to a full-day workout.

Just south of Wintergreen is Crabtree Falls, a set of cascades which is highest in the eastern part of the United States. And the nearby Shenandoah National Park offers hundreds of miles of beautiful trails to explore! We keep trail maps for Wintergreen in each of our condos, and you can visit the nearby Wintergreen Nature Foundation office for great suggestions on a hike you may enjoy. The Foundation also guides group hikes that may be an excellent way to learn of the Appalachian Mountain region.

Lake Monocan

In the Valley lies Lake Monocan, a 20-acre lake and park open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  The lake features a snack bar, canoes, kayaks, fishing equipment, sand volleyball court, sandy beach, floating inflatables, lounge chairs, picnic area and outdoor charcoal grills. A great place to relax on a summer day!
