Our family has been going to Wintergreen for many years, and we enjoy it today as much as ever. Lee first went to Wintergreen to ski in the 70’s and 80s when the Resort was really just starting out. From our current home in Richmond, a little less than two hours away, we began going in earnest as a family in the 90s as a place to enjoy the summer in a cooler climate than back home. With my wife Debbie and son Braden, we’d hike, enjoy the pools, golf a little, and generally just enjoy some “down time” with the Blue Ridge Mountains as an inviting backdrop. 

This was really before on-line booking sites had taken off, so we were essentially going by newspaper ads.

Shortly after our daughter Grace arrived in 2002, we started looking for a condo of our own. In October of 2004, we found 1831 Highridge Court for sale, and immediately bought it. It was a quality property, two bedroom, two bath, with nice amenities, but what sold us was the view, which was (and is) spectacular. After spending a week painting and decorating, we were happy with the results, and spent our first Thanksgiving together at Wintergreen in 2004. We had decided that we would have limited time to enjoy it ourselves, so we put it on the vacation rental market at the end of the year (New Year’s Eve saw our first rental guests, a family from Virginia Beach.)

From that beginning, we have continued to enjoy the condo ourselves, but have also enjoyed hosting people from literally all over the world. We have been blessed with many repeat guests, and have gotten to know some quite well through the years.

In 2015, we decided to buy a second condo in the building next door, 1925 Highridge Place. This unit has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a large wrap-arounf deck, and a view that is the equal to our first place.For this condo, we refurbished it extensively prior to usage, and the results are, we think, quite gratifying. We put it on the rental market as well and hosted our first guests for Labor Day weekend in 2015.

Today, we still get to Wintegreen and enjoy it year-round when we can, but our son, while still in Richmond, has moved out on his own, and our daughter is involved in a million activities during her high school years. We thoroughly enjoy hosting guests at our two properties,and making it possible for them to experience the many adventures and memories that make Wintergreen such a special place.
